PITTSBURGH (March 17, 2013)…

August Wilson Center Members Ratify First Contract by 100 Percent

Congratulations- we did it! Our perseverance, commitment and dedication has paid off. Together, we applaud our members and welcome our newest members at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in ratifying a first union contract!

IATSE Local No.3 unanimously ratify first union contract March 17, 2013.

Previously Stage Technicians at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture – AWC in Pittsburgh voted unanimously for union representation by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees - IATSE Local No.3 during a National Labor Relations Board election held September 26, 2012.

We are proud of these talented technical and craft employees that work lighting, sound, audio-visual, special effects, and props, for theatrical productions at the August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Avenue downtown Pittsburgh. The August Wilson Center is one of only two major arts institutions in the world named for Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright and Pittsburgh native August Wilson. The August Wilson Center for African American Culture engages regional and national audiences in its mission of preserving, presenting, interpreting, celebrating and shaping the art, culture and history of African Americans from Western Pennsylvania as a foundation.

IATSE Local No.3 was chartered in 1887 and is one of the oldest unions and represents Stagehands in theatrical lighting, sound, set construction, rigging, properties, hair and make-up for events in Pittsburgh and southwest Pennsylvania.
